The majestic LEH LADAKH

Hello friends,

Four friends decided on a 10 day trip to the majestic Leh Ladakh in the month of August(road trip one side & flight on the way back). We started our journey from Delhi and took the overnight bus journey to Manali. We took a good day's rest in Manali before we started our road trip to Leh Ladakh. We hired an Innova and honestly, it was a really comfortable long ride courtesy the car and the really well behaved driver. 490 kms Manali - Leh highway.

So, we started our drive from Manali and had to reach Keylong, which was a mid point between Leh and Manali. It was a 6 hour drive from Manali. We stayed in a Keylong tourist lodge for the night to pursue a 12 hour drive from there. This entire journey although long, was topographically, extremely fascinating. The topography kept changing after 20-30 minutes. Some place had green dense forests whereas others had completely naked mountains. Some place had grass low lands whereas other place had rocky high mountains. Some place had sand castles and another place had waterfalls and rivers. Some place had snow capped mountain peaks while other places had deep valleys. We saw 40% smooth roads and 30% average roads and another 30% roads were extremely, rugged. We covered some of the highest passes of the world in this journey - Rohtang, Bara Lacha la, Nakee la,Tanglang la, Khardung la, Changlang la. In the whole road, it was very interesting to find cluster of bike riders and the little tea stalls scattered in some places.

The road trip was as follows - Manali  Rohtang Jot - Gramphu - Kokhsar - Tandi - Keylong - Jispa - Darcha – Zingzingbar - Baralacha La - Bharatpur - Sarchu (state border) - Gata Loops - Nakee La - Lachulung La- Pang - More Plains - Tanglang La - Gya - Upshi - Karu - Leh

After being on the road for 3 days straight, we reached Leh by night.

Next 2 days, we went touristy around Leh town and visited a few famous spots - Leh Palace ( you can skip this), Shanti stupa, Thikse monastery, Magnetic hill, drove along the beautiful roads, hills on one side and the mighty Indus River flowing on the other and in the evening, we were chilling in the vibrant Leh market, shopped a little and had beer(closeted) in one the rooftop restaurants.Leh had a pretty warm weather.

Next day, we drove to Nubra valley and we stayed there in one of the prettiest farm houses ever. It was located in a very secluded area, very near to the river and we also took our camel rides in the sand dunes. Best part about Nubra valley was that it was not at all crowded and the farm house we stayed was extremely comfortable. They produce fresh farm vegetables and served us fresh cooked food from their garden. Definitely one of the cutest stays I have had, till date.

Unfortunately, the road from Nubra to Pangong was closed, hence we had to return back to Leh and from there, we drove to Pangong lake. Pangong Lake, is lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m.It extends from India to China. This place was quite chilly. Pangong has only tents for stay around the lake. This was a new experience for me.The tents have all the facilities like a normal guest room.We stayed in the tent where 'Jab tak hai jaan' cast stayed.Around the Pangong lake, we also took a lot of pictures with all the 'Three Idiots' props. Pangong was a real beauty with its crystal clear chilly blue waters, clean blue skies in the morning & amazing starry skies in the night. From Pangong, we returned back to Leh, stayed there for another night before we flew back to Delhi.

Overall, it was on my bucket list for a long time and I am so glad, finally I did this one hell of an adventure with husband and friends.

Few points - One can feel the oxygen crunch or altitude sickness in this journey, so get a pill for that. However, fit people or people who work out, wont feel any difference.Carry all kinds of clothes - summer and winters, carry your sunscreen and moisturiser.Keep your body prepared and physically fit/active prior to the trip, so that you can explore the terrain more on foot.
You can consume alcohol and smokes but always in control.Rest, be prepared to experience the enthralling landscape in Leh and really warm people.Plan a trip now!Yup, carry your DSLR for some mind blowing pictures.
